Job Description and Expectations

The USNDC Board of Directors is now accepting applications until end of November, 2016 for the positions of Board Treasurer which is a 3 year term:

Purpose: To govern, advise and oversee policies set by UNITED STATES NATIONAL DEFENSE CORPS (USNDC), and to assist with the leadership and general promotion of USNDC’s mission and goals. All Board Members are responsible to serve in compliance with the organization’s bylaws.


Board Director:

  • Is a member of the Board
  • Helps determine the organization’s mission and purpose
  • Develops and approves strategic plans and major commitments
  • Governs the organization by broad policies and objects
  • Acquires sufficient resources for the organization’s operations including participation in fund raising
  • Exercises overall responsibility for the fiscal affairs of the organization ensuring the fiscal integrity of its operations using standard business and management practices.
  • Advises one specific committee delegating the organization’s management functions, including planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling to Committee chairs.
  • Serves as public ambassador for the organization promoting awareness and good will.
  • Length of term: 3 years with the option of renewal. Position may be renewed up to a maximum of 2 consecutive terms.
  • Setting the policy for the organization. This is done by creating or updating the mission and vision statements, determining the organization’s programs and services, and approving the strategic plan.
  • Monitoring the organization’s operations. Hiring and periodically evaluating the organization’s executive director, working with and providing support to the executive, approving the annual budget, annual report, etc. Approving major contracts and grants, soliciting and reviewing, program evaluations.
  • Serving as a public figure for the organization, doing fundraising, by directly donating to the non-profit and soliciting donations from others, and advocating for the organization.


Treasurer/ Chief Financial Officer:

  • Is a member of the Board
  • An officer of the organization
  • Has the same role and responsibility as the members of the Board in additions to the following
    • Manages the organization’s finance
    • Administrates fiscal matters of the organization
    • Provides annual budget and report to the members of the Board
    • Provide regular financial reporting to the Board – minimum per quarter
    • Chair of the Finance Committee
    • Develops financial policies and procedures
    • Responsible for filing the organization’s financial with the IRS

Secretary:

  • Is a member of the Board and subject to the same rules and regulations as all Board members
  • Is an officer of the organization
  • Must have prior experience in running meetings, following Robert's Rules of Order and with a 501(c)(3)
  • Is responsible for keeping all meeting minutes, serve as custodian for all records
  • Gives notice as required by law and the USNDC bylaws

Meetings and Time Commitment:

  • Meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of every month at 1900 Mountain Time.
  • Other emergency meetings at President’s request.
  • Meetings typically last 2 to 4 hours.
  • Board members may be required to attend special events or meetings and annual event/ meeting.

Expectations of All Board Members:

  • Be accountable to all the committee deliverables – strategic direction and operational excellence
  • Attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis and special events as able.
  • Participate in other committees.
  • Is alert to community and members concerns that can be addressed by UNITED STATES NATIONAL DEFENSE CORPS’ programs and communications.
  • Helps to communicate and promoteUNITED STATES NATIONAL DEFENSE CORPS’ mission and programs to the community, corporations and etc.
  • Becomes familiar with UNITED STATES NATIONAL DEFENSE CORPS’ finances, programs, mission and etc..
  • Understands the policies and procedures of UNITED STATES NATIONAL DEFENSE CORPS.
  • Provides regular committee/activity updates
